this might be the best beer i have had from these guys so far, a silky smooth near black robustly flavored oatmeal porter. they have absolutely nailed this one. great shine to the pour, full inch of almost white head on the top, fluffy and expansive, sexy and enticing. it smells almost as good, with a deep roast and almost none of that middle sweetness caramel thing their baltic porter had so much of. instead this stays dry and earthy in the nose, short of burnt, but really deep. the flavor is even more expressive than the nose, with raw dark chocolate and unbrewed coffee bean notes, as well as the contribution of the oats, which is like bread crusts and honey, really well dosed, this must have been one heck of a mash! tons and tons of body, its perfectly satisfying in feel, creamy and rich, but not sweet in the least. it coats the palate and the throat on the way down, and feels almost healthy in a way. great use of oats. not overly carbonated, sort of a stiller brew, but its suited to that. id love this on cask too. i could have had a whole bunch of these if the other beers on their menu didnt lure me in. ill be back for more of this one!
