neat beer, clever on a number of levels, good to get back in hear after many years away. this is a belgian dubbel base done with what must be a whole heap of maple syrup, this is a sweet maple bomb, the good stuff, unique and compatible with the belgian yeast, which i suppose is a little understated in here, love it, even if its maybe too sweet to drink more than one or two of, at least for me. a gorgeous medium amber to mahogany color, some body apparent but still looks delicate, nice and clear under a foamed up inch of khaki head, almost nitro thickness, sexy. the nose is rich and sweet, easy to pick out maple but there are also notes of chateau malt, raisin and rum, fig, dark bread, and mellow belgian yeast, white pepper and anise but gentle. the flavor is maple first and maple last, but the yeast character flashes in and out as well, as do layers of dried red apple, amburana wood, and toffee. its really sugary, but it gives it a super luxurious body, and the carbonation is high in the belgian tradition, makes the overall texture just wonderful. maple forever on the palate, hints of smoke and pecan, rich and fancy even, with the right mix of fruity and spicy belgian yeast esters. really impressive beer on the whole, very unique gameplan and rock solid execution. my favorite beer i had in here this time, one of a kind, even if its a relatively small doses thing. delightful!
