Gifted a bottle by Jeremy.
Jeremy probably correctly stated that as a BBA BW it comes up lacking. Little Bourbon barrel really comes across.
But I really liked this “Imperial” English style BW.
Had a beautiful dark brown color with flashes of garnet Fed when held to light. Big frothy tan head that dissipated leaving tons of lacing and a nice off white halo.
Nose and taste had all the bready British malt with decent background hoppiness. Barreling seemed to round it out with noticeable if faint contributions of caramel and toffee.
Smooth sipper with medium carbonation. No noticeable ABV burn at 11%.
I would love to get a pint of this on “cask”.
I have had quite a few Lunkenheimer brews over the last few years, and IMO they do best with German and/or Bohemian style brews. I also like their Porters. Otherwise more meh that hits. But this brew is a solid testament to good brewing in a classic English style.
Really glad I had a chance to enjoy this considering the small batch limited release.
