Misc.: Quick review
Snuck over to Hoffer’s for a flight and a few barrel-aged beers for my birthday. Decided to review this one after the flight, breaking my rule of not reviewing anything under eight ounces. Untappd description read, “A BIG Russian Imperial Stout barrel-aged in Rye Whiskey barrels.”
Poured a pitch black color with one finger of khaki tan frothy head when I got it. Could see some slow moving bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Decent spotty watery lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled oak, leather, vanilla, mocha, caramel, toffee, milk chocolate, smooth rye whiskey and cocoa. (Smell - 4.75)
Taste was not as good as the nose, but still excellent. Got oaky leather, vanilla, smooth rye whiskey, toffee, caramel, mocha, milk chocolate, cocoa and chocolate milk. Smooth for 14.4 pct. ABV. (Taste - 4.25)
Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.50)
Just an excellent barrel-aged stout overall. Glad I got to try it. (Overall - 4.25)
