Collaboration with Societe Brewing Company.
What’s that they say? Something about “the best laid plans”… When we set out to brew this San Diego-Style IPA with the fine folks at Societe Brewing Company, we daydreamed about enjoying this deliciously tropical slice-of-heaven with all of our friends and family in the heat of summer. But hey, plans change. “Catch You on the Flip Side” was the last thing we said to each other before lockdown, and if this isn’t the “flip side” we’re living in, we don’t know what is. Fortunately, we got the band back together, and decided to pull out all the stops. We packed this one to the brim with Southern Hemisphere hops for a clean, crisp, and endlessly drinkable IPA bursting with tropical flavors and aromas. The world looks a bit different from when we started, but great beer is great beer, no matter what side you’re on.
STATS
Color: 4 SRM
Bitterness: 60 IBU
Malt: 2 Row, White Wheat, Dextrose
Hops: Wakatu, Teiheke, Citra, Ella

Grabbed this on a recent trip to Trader Joe’s. I believe this was the first time I saw it in stores. The description on the Karl Strauss website read, “What’s that they say? Citra was the only one I felt comfortable with and pretty sure I’ve never had Teiheke (tropical, floral, grapefruit, lime, lemon) and still was super new to Wakatu (floral, lime) and Ella (tropical, grapefruit, star anise).
Poured a medium yellow clear color with two fingers of frothy off-white head. Plenty of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Outstanding spotty lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled grapefruit, passion fruit, lime, lemon, Starburst lemon candy, tropical bubblegum, grass and sugary citrus fruit. Looking at the hop profiles in this one, I’d say more Teiheke then anything else. Not as much Citra as I would have thought. A little better out of the can with some earthy malt coming in. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted a little better than the nose. Lots of tropical notes with a bitter finish. Got passion fruit, grapefruit, lime, lemon, citrus zest, lemon Starburst candy, dry grass, bitter pine and tropical bubblegum. Some Citra, and looking at hop profile got bits and pieces of Teiheke, Wakatu and Ella. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, dry finish. (Feel - 3.75)
I think I overrated this slightly overall, but very good. (Overall - 3.75)

Karl Strauss and Societe colab. This became a staple while it was on the shelves.
Classic west coast ipa! Almost a throwback at this point. Pours clear and golden. Lots of pine and a long bitter finish. Yum.

Pure West Coast like smoking a bowl of kush under a palm tree. This one sings to me like Tupac screamin’ “California Love.” Bitter and hoppy like a Malibu beach bunny...
