Collaboration with Modern Times Beer
You trudge through a dry, harsh landscape in search of refreshment. You accept your fate, doomed to perish in this lonely desert, deprived of that sweet sweet life-giving nectar. But lo! What’s that in the distance? Could it be the safe haven you’ve been searching for? Your eyes do not deceive you, and your nose is greeted by a colorful mosaic of intoxicatingly fruity aromas. Grapefruit, tangerine, stone fruit, and… dare you say, papaya? Indeed, Mosaic Oasis IPA is a dank and citrusy San Diego-style treasure brewed with our friends (and IPA wizards) at Modern Times Beer. Sure, any oasis can quench your thirst. But who needs H-2-O when you’ve got I-P-A?

Type: 16-oz. can

Glass: Firestone 16-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
Price: $3.29
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: Feb. 12, 2021
Consumed: Feb. 12, 2021
Misc.: Collab with Modern Times; Canned on Jan. 7, 2021
Got this and way too many beers on a recent trip to Windmill Farms. Had been wanting to try this for quite some time, trying to find the right price for a 4-pack. Well today I found a good price for one, so went with that first. The Karl Strauss website read “You trudge through a dry, harsh landscape in search of refreshment. Poured a medium yellow hazy color with four fingers of rocky white head. Plenty of bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. Perfect spiderweb foamy lacing. Perfect retention. (Sight - 5.00)
Smelled a nice mix of the mentioned Mosaic and Talus. In order Mosaic, floral, rose blossom, pink grapefruit, strawberry shortcake, pine, mixed berry, guava, mango, and hints of bubblegum. Got better each sniff. Just as good out of the can. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted about as good as the nose. Got Mosaic and Talus right away. Specifically floral, rose blossom, pink grapefruit, strawberry shortcake, mixed berry, guava, mango, pine, stone fruit, bubblegum and peach. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Was back and forth on this one but it was outstanding overall. (Overall - 4.00)

Slightly hazy, nose is dank and tropical (berries), taste adds a little bit of grassy dimension, moderate bitterness and some acidity, slightly full mouthfeel. Nice beer, I'd happily repeat.

This is a good one. Like Gretzky lining up for a slapper, Karl Strauss and Modern Times shoot and score. Yeah, this ain’t no wild whirly bird goal. ii’s just a clean and crispy one that puts you up 2-1 at the end of the 2nd period.
I’m outta here.

about 30 years of drinking craft brew esp in San Diego and my 1st beeradvocate review, Wine is my avocation, beer is my pleasure and this beer is crafted with my palette in mind. Mosaic is so well defined in this beer, both aroma and palette. There's a bit more sweetness/residual sugar present than I'd prefer, but I find this beer is perfectly balanced with hop bitterness and tropical fruit similar to a hazy style. Could drink it every day.

Slight haze on the amber brew with plenty of foam in the thistle glass. Highly aromatic with green melon, lime peel, and orange. Rather acidic with a very hot mouthfeel. Tastes of orange peel, mango, and lime with a splash of battery acid.
Hops are Mosaic, obviously, plus Talus. Scratchy finish but modest bitterness. They don't claim the NE style, but it's brewed with wheat and gets sharp and gunky in the throat. Which is probably the contribution of Modern Times. While lush with aroma and fruit, the downward slide into harshness is regrettable. From the 16 oz can purchased from Bine Y Vine.
