Deep in the woods lies a secret hideout, an escape for artists and dreamers and adventurers. Legend has it, two brewers formed a sacred alliance there and crafted a powerful elixir. (“Hang on, aren’t you both from San Diego? You don’t live in the woods, you just brewed a collab beer. What are you talking about?”) Hey we’re setting the scene, go with it! Ahem. Introducing Bohemian Grove, a West Coast IPA brewed with our friends Burgeon Beer. Tropical fruit aromas and notes of freshly squeezed citrus are backed by firm yet balanced bitterness. Viva la vie boheme.

Figured it had been awhile since I’d been to Windmill Farms so I stopped by for a sandwich and grabbed four beers as well. The Karl Strauss website calls it” Deep in the woods lies a secret hideout, an escape for artists and dreamers and adventurers. Poured a medium yellow-to-light golden clear color with three fingers of frothy white head. Lots of bubble streams coming up from the bottom and sides of the glass, much faster from the bottom. World-class uneven foamy lacing. Almost perfect foamy retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled HBC 586, mango, guava, grapefruit, Citra, orange blossom, melon, El Dorado, peach skin and pear. About the same from the can with the addition of lime and lemon. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted about as good from the nose. In order got HBC 586, mango, guava, grapefruit, Citra, orange blossom, melon, El Dorado, peach, nectarine, pear, stone fruit, bitter dish soap and lemon zest. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Long, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Just a lovely beer. Grew on me as it went down. (Overall - 4.25)

Handsome clear amber brew with plenty of foam in the Chimay chalice. Pleasantly prickly carbonation on the tongue. Medium body with some malty flavors. Aroma of citrus peel and pine. Well balanced and friendly hoppy brew with distinct bitterness and a clean, mineral finish. From the 16 oz can purchased at Barons Market. Dated 01/13/22.

On-tap…not bad at all! Bright, hoppy, pithy, and a proper finish. Solid WC IPA.

Karl Strauss collaboration with Burgeon
Pours a thin gold yellow with light foam. Dank, dank, dank. Aroma makes you work for it, but the flavor is full fusel, with some pineapple juice and orange pith. Bracing bitterness and a drying finish. This one grew on me
