Type: Draft
Glass: Pint glass
From: Karl Strauss Brewery in La Jolla, Calif.
Price: ???
Purchased: May 31, 2013
Consumed: May 31, 2013
Misc.: The board at KSB in La Jolla read 7.6 percent ABV.
Poured a dark red, caramel color with 1-2 fingers of khaki cream head when I got it. Lots of good layered foamy lacing, good retention all the way down.
Smelled a pleasant mix of caramel and toffee malts and bitter, spicy, rye hops, resin hops, citrus hops (grapefruit & grapefruit rind) and floral hops.
Tasted skunky resin hops, bitter spices, rye hops, floral hops and grapefruit rind. Not quite as good as the smell.
Medium body. Thin texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Bitter abrupt finish.
This beer started out well for me but took a bad turn when I tasted it. I probably wouldn’t have it again.

Red color. Aroma is like spiced caramel. Taste is spicy rye, malty, chewy actually pretty good. I’d actually order another of these. I will say though that the hops don’t come through well but that rye and the malt are good. This probably came in a close second to the Wreck Alley that I had, good beer!
