an absolutely great beer, not sure when these guys came to the denver market, but i found it on tap at a growler usa yesterday, a surprising score! its a funky dark farmhouse with plum and currant in it, and its delicious. lately, when i see this combination of ingredients, i tend to think sour, like oud bruin type, real vinegar forward and acidic, but that isnt the case here at all, not even a little bit, this is dry and cocoa powder forward, malty in a cool dry interesting earthy dark way without being too intense, and its more clean belgian saison and funk than bacterial elements in the fermentation profile, unexpected but awesome and appreciated. i think it lets the fruit come through a lot more, chocolate dipped but adult, not kiddy, not sweet, with plum tang and currant astringency, but not accentuated or pushed on by sour beer elements at all, rather tempered and grounded by the grain. drinkable and layered, warms up well, and still seems like saison first, despite everything else going on in it. the fruit is a wonderful accent and comes through really nicely, honest and true, and i love the selection of dark malt. well conceived of and executed, i hope more of their beers come into the market. this is the only one i have seen so far and i loved it!

Found a bottle in an Austin Whole Foods. Poured into a tulip glass. Deep dark brown with a foamy beige head and great lacing. Slightly sour fruit smell. Taste was earthy, funky sour but tempered with a bit of sweet pumpernickel. Some dark berries and a bit of pepper spice at the end. Fun beer!

L- Pours a very dark, two finger headed beer. The beer itself is very dark.
S- Phenol, sour, dark fruit, brett, roasted malt. Very interesting. I also get an interesting note of... Bubblegum?? huh...
T- Very sour-brett like flavor, dark fruit (cherry mostly), some biscuit, some roasted malt tendencies. Very nice.
F- Very very dry. Bravo!
O-Overall a very good saison. Ive had a few beers from Noble Rey and can say that I've enjoyed every one of them. This beer was a pleasure to drink.
