June 16th, 2016 - Coffee ales are strange creatures to the eye, often taking a medium and maudlin brown color, instead of the inky, dark hue of a coffee bean. But the aroma makes no mistake - pour over coffee and a touch of black tea astringency. The coffee smell I've experienced before, but the extra pinch of English Breakfast is a very nice touch. But this all makes for an overly bold flavor, which returns to the Black Chinese tea notes (Golden Yunnan), and some oxidized apple. Where these notes shined in the nose they flop in the flavor.

How did they do it? It's hard enough to get the coffee right in dark beers, but to get it BEAUTIFULLY in a pale ale?! The aroma alone makes me want to try this 'Swell' coffee company.
