This really took me by surprise. I don't mind beers that challenge my assumptions of a style, but if I order a DIPA I do not expect a dark as night beer to be presented to me. Nor do I expect a beer that taste like a stout. Not that the fact that this is not a stereotypical IPA makes this a bad beer, but just know what you're ordering.

Taking style aside, this is a fairly boring beer. It's not bad, and it hides the 10% alcohol very well. But it's not exciting in any regard. It's a more impressive beer than it's a good one.

Later disclaimer: I have no idea why this was labeled an IPA when I purchased it - but I am glad they've corrected the label. It remains fairly forgettable though.

1/2 pint pour for the price of a regular pints for regular smaller beers ($5).
Poured with almost no head, but right to the top. Black without much for highlights.
Aroma was tight but did pick of some roast and light hops.
Taste was fresh, which seemed a combination of a young stout but also the hopping which was fresh and fruity (but not a fruit salad, just a pleasant slightly sweet fruit and herb). It's listed as 76 ibu but it didn't go into the bittering as was balanced more towards sweetness than bitterness (which was minimal). The fresh sharpness of the grains and the hops was pleasing. Nice roast flavors but not much chocolate or coffee.
The body was rather thin for style and made it go down a little too quickly for a beer this size. And it lack the softness that sometimes goes with the heft.
This was interesting.
The brewery is putting out a Maple Imperial Stout (in bottles too) in a few weeks that the brewer told me is not the same foundation recipe.
