A very cheap version of a session English ipa, brunt and dirty notes linger all through this ale. Leaving a lager like yeast taste in the mouth with a generic bitterness and leafy dirty earthy hop aroma mixing with burnt sugars.
the look was very pleasant dark amber, with smooth bitterness.
the aroma was light but earthy with burnt toasted notes.
the flavor was poor as described above.
overall cheap but not for me. Cheers!

355 mL can from a six-pack picked up at TBS; served slightly chilled. One of several new craft-ish PC offerings (courtesy of Brick) available in Ontario. If they can make a decent English-style IPA at this price, I may just be a repeat customer.
Pours a bright, clear amber colour, topped with a layer of dense, frothy, off-white head about one finger's-width in thickness. Weak aroma - sweet malts, leafy hops, and not much else. Hmm...
I will give them credit - they at least tried to make this resemble an English IPA. The problem is that the flavour is dominated by a bitter, astringent, almost soapy hop flavour with virtually nothing else to counter it. There's a touch of pale malt sweetness and toffee, but not nearly enough to warrant the aggressive hop bitterness, which dries the palate out and demands something salty on hand to munch. The mouthfeel is the only good thing about this beer - on the light side of medium, with moderate carbonation that does its best to scrub the astringency from your palate. This is my third can so I can't really say it's not sessionable, but I doubt I'll be able to pawn this off on anyone else so I might as well finish the sixer.
Final Grade: 2.67, a weak C-. PC IPA is pretty disappointing. It's hoppy, sure - but it's not an enjoyable bitterness, and the lack of a proper malt bill makes this a tolerable IPA at best. This is one of very few hoppy budget beers I can think of, so it might find a home in a few fridges, but in all honesty I'd rather pay a few bucks more and get a sixer of something good.

355 mL can from TBS, no expiry date but newly arrived at the store. Can reads "Brewed to honour England's historical Pale Ales shipped to India and beyond."
Pale orange with a white, blink-and-you'll-miss-it head. Very bubbly, obviously more carbonation than a traditional English IPA.
Aroma of sweet malt with only the faintest hint of hops. Smells like a mass-appeal pale lager.
Tastes like bittering hops. I don't know how else to describe it. It starts bitter, continues bitter, and finishes more bitter. Not super-high IBUs but there's basically nothing else going on here so the bitterness dominates. It also seems to be very highly attenuated, which along with the carbonation emphasizes the bitterness. I honestly don't have a single adjective to describe the hop flavour because I can't find any; anything I could say would be a reach.
This is a budget pale lager with brewer's caramel for colour and three or four times the normal dose of bittering hops. The nicest thing about it is the rakish Union Jack design on the can.
