one of the weirdest ideas i have heard of for a beer in a long time, an amber ale with bananas in it! not sure i have actually seen banana in beer before, and while it is often alluded to in reference to hefe and wit yeasts, this might be a first for me. cloudy thick looking pale brick red brew with a short but creamy head on top. aroma of kilned red malts, nutty but not real sweet, and then a little bit of slick green banana in here, not imagining that. in the flavor, the malt is pretty sturdy and steadfast in its claim on being the dominant factor here, odd in a beer that is overall kind of lighter, at least in terms of abv and any residuals, but its dry which helps, and its not overly caramelized or anything, which also helps. the banana is there for sure too, almost as texture obvious as flavor forward, its both starchy and creamy, almost smoothie-esque in the center here, while the flavor is more ripe than it is in the nose, and only subtly sweet. more like a banana chip or something than the fresh fruit, but very real and absolutely not over dosed in the least bit. its creamy and thick feeling, likely from the banana, but its not sweet and it remains easy drinking. not aggressively weird, but a cool subtle twist to a base style i often find to be uninspired. we all really dug this one.
