a quality strong ale here that was not at all out of place in a very notable lineup of other delicious strong ales, it fit right in. lighter brown in color with a tall frothy head, smells like english ale yeast to me, bready and wonderful with all the sweet and heavy malts in here. brown sugar and maple on the nose with the yeast, and a little more of an earthy bakery fresh grain taste to it, still quite sweet, bt very balanced and complete tasting to me. really awesome depth to this, i like how the alcohol isnt too strong in it, but how it can still be felt as warming a little bit, this is perfect cooler weather beer, not too sweet in the finish, but substantial on the body and really smooth. i could see this doing really well in a rye whiskey barrel, but it also doesnt need it. the malt flavors are robust and its very hearty overall. an enjoyable beer from a brewery i had never really heard of before. unique surprise. the world needs more strong ales like this, there is a notable absence of hops in the finish, its not trying to be too much, just squarely malt driven. yum.
