pours out a light gold colour with a two finger snow white head. it sticks and stays in merengue like fashion. nice lace. lemony hop aroma with a cracker and biscuit malt base nose. the mosaic hops dominate the pils profile with more citrusy pith of the lemon and grapefruit kind. pils malts provide a sturdy foundation for the slight spicy bite the hopping provides. it certainly is one dimensional but the quenching aspect is a puckering pleasantry that certainly slakes a thirst. i'd give the overall body a thumbs up for being a bit beefy and the mouthfeel is great due to the semi coarseness of mosaic hops. drinkability is great. no one does a pils like Schell's.

overall i would say that this isn't as good as the citra pils from last year but it's satisfying nonetheless. a solid beer, this would be a great summer quencher. looking forward to the anniversary series!

Bottle reviewed early November.

A: Pretty golden straw with a white head. Good retention. Several bottles have had a little precipitate, which as best as I can tell, is hop particulate.
S: Nice cracker pilsner malt, fruity, floral hops. Just a little peppery. Reminds me of last year’s version despite hop difference (not too many of this style to compare, I suppose). I think this one is a little more aromatic.
T: Nice combination of bitterness, citrus, white pepper, pine and berry flavor. I usually don’t get that much depth from most hoppy beers. Finishes dry with a bit of white wine character.
M: Light body with medium-heavy carbonation. Lively but pretty smooth

Really like this one. Last year’s was pretty good, but Citra doesn't seem to be my favorite hop. Conversely, I must be a big Mosaic fan because this and the Indeed '13 (Mosaic) Fresh Hop were right up my alley.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.

Hazed pale golden yellow, excellent layer of suds that sticks well to the glass. Orangey, woody, and resiny hop aroma with some cracker and doughy malt. Very smooth, orange zest, cedar, soft resin, bready, peppery, slightly biscuity, clean, doughy, leafy drying finish.

Love the Mosaic hop, well done on keeping this balanced yet leaving a solid fresh hop impression.

A couple things stand out with this beer....

-I get a lemony hop impression....some lighter citrus notes but a lot of lemons...lemongrass....on the nose and the taste

-The spritzy carbonation and feel to this beer....almost a seltzer like feel....not a fan of this....

I'm reviewing this probably too far past when it was bottled. I got my hands on this two weeks ago and thought it was pretty good but it is losing gusto fast. Right now this is pretty average. Prefer last years version better.

Served in a snifter.

Huge developing head, two finger's width of pillowy, white foam. Fresh Hop shines with a lemon custard colored body with a nice unfiltered haze.

Vegetal and lemon rind aromas coming from the glass. Not sure I enjoy this combo. Some kind of earthiness /mustiness that does not work either.

Same earthy pilsner flavor on the palate mixing with lemon rind, white grapefruit, and a floral flavor. Still not a fan of the combination. Impressive that the palate is so incredibly mimicking the nose.

Champagne-y pilsner feel. Not very bitter or dry at all. Not a great feel with this sweeter profile.

Fresh Hop is a beer with a decent following. I cannot jump on the bandwagon. The flavor profile is just, weird. Don't go into this thinking of a Mosaic single hop IPA, because that is not what you get.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a fairly hazy straw yellowish orange with a lot of bubbles. Huge four finger white head with decent retention. Leaves a good amount of lacing around the glass.

Smell:A bright, zesty, earthy, and fairly sweet aroma with lots of hop hints and pils malt. Upfront mix of earthy, floral, herbal, and citrus hops. Hints of grass and dank wet pine resin. Citrus fruit hints of orange peel ,lemon zest, grapefruit, mango, and lime. Bready malt balance with hints of pilsener malt, straw, cracker, biscuit, grains, and yeast. Hints of pepper spice as well. A pretty solid aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a fruity, earthy, and sweet bready wet hopped version of a pilsener. Upfront hop taste with earthy, floral, citrus, and herbal notes. Grassy notes along with some wet and dank pine resin spice. Citrus fruit notes of orange, lemon zest, lime, mango, and grapefruit. Bready pale malt presence with notes of pilsener malt, biscuit, cracker, straw, grains, and yeast. Slight taste of pepper spicing. A very good zesty taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Crisp, clean, juicy, and very smooth.

Overall: A pretty good hopped up twist on a Pilsener. Good wet hop flavors with a solid pils malt balance.
