650.5ml brown glass bomber with a funky pink, black and white label. It pours a bit murky amber-red with a thick, off-white head and plenty of fine lacing as well.
Not overly sweet, but a truck load of malt fills the nose. Caramel and toffee with a hint of vanilla and honey. This has malt coming out of the seams with after notes of dough and nuts. It really smells like an ice cream, donut, bakery and pastry shop, all rolled into one.
The taste is as malty as it smells, did I mention malt shop? It is very, very malty but not too sweet or overpowering. It's good and rich tasty malt, a little earthy and no real hop bitterness. It is balanced by hops, but in a very subtle way.
This brew has plenty of body and a fairly chewy texture with a mild warming of alcohol. As for the style, if marzen's are supposed to be malty, this more than fits the bill. However, not knowing exactly what the style's criteria is, I can say it's pretty tasty and it's labeled what it is... and that sounds good to me.
