Inspired by our roots in the days before refrigeration, our Cave-Aged Barrel-Aged lager is released each fall after spending time aging in the historic caves deep below our brewery. High in alcohol content with hints of sweet caramel, oak, and vanilla.

Scrappy notes from 2018.
Not easily found and an excellent beer. Pours jet black in color, sweet caramel, oak, vanilla. Very deep and rich like Spaten Optimator but with scotch and cask flavors. Certainly is outstanding and it's style (Baltic Porter) isn't described on any packaging or bottle labels.

Pours a full-black with two fingers of khaki foam that clings on for life well. Aroma is toffee, raisins, caramel, fudge, milk chocolate, fig and bready, caramely, toasty, pilsnery malts. It's rich and full through the nose, quickly tapering off with a light dryness. Flavor profile is caramely, toffee, raisins, fig, molasses, milk chocolate and fudge, all the while, supported by roasty, toasty, caramely, bready and pilsnery malts. Rich and full, with a little oak to dry up the back. Impressive depth and refinement. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a creamy texture that falls just shy of hitting the full, thick creaminess of whole chocolate milk. Overall, between the luxurious texture and balance, this is one fantastic barrel aged beer. Easy to drink while providing a lot of flavor.

12-oz bottle into porter/stout glass
I've been sitting on this one for about half a year; looking forward to consuming and reviewing!
A - 2 fingers of dark tan over a body of pitch black; small amount of even lace from the first couple sips
S - rich and complex scent of oak, caramel sweetness, maybe a touch of vanilla; very inviting!
T - oak and vanilla, sweet caramel, booze, hint of coffee and chocolate, dark fruits, touch of smoke, dry finish; delightfully rich and complex
M - medium/full body, medium carbonation; smooth
O - Excellent!

Aroma of dark malts, slight alcohol, raisins, vanilla. Tall tan head, dark ruby color. Attractive tan lacing as the head slowly recedes. Initial taste is slightly sweet, dark fruit, touch of wood with a substantial body, slight vanilla adds to the flavor. A tinge of bittering begins in the middle, continuing through to the finish, with a nicely bitter aftertaste. Very nice. Well done. Fabulous. Recommended.
