A crisp, dry pilsner, with a firm hop bitterness, our Keller Pils is unfiltered and full of character. The addition of Callista hops lends a fruity aroma of citrus, stone fruits, and berries. Golden in color and balanced in flavor, it stands tall against its lighter-bodied, low-hopped relatives.

12-oz can into home brew glass

A - cloudy golden body under a finger or two of white foam; high visible carbonation; nice web of lace

S - faint smell of citrus and grass; maybe some grain

T - refreshing citrus fruit, bready malt, grass and light peppery spice

M - high carbonation, medium/light body, refreshing with a dry finish

O - This is a great pils.

Pours hazy golden.
Can still see thru it but it looks like it was shaken with particles.
Smell is muted. Grassy lemon.
Flavor is nice lemon grass with a little bitterness. Pretty damn drinkable.
I like this beer.
Got it in a mix pack when up in Minnetonka.
Funny thing is that I was supposed to go ice fishing and then my buddies appendix almost burst.
Sat around with the mix pack and a buddy getting drunk instead.
Well done Schells. Thanks for them memories.

I got a can of this beer off the single shelf from a beer store in LaCrosse, WI. It poured a slightly hazy yellow with white head that is leaving some lace. The scent had bitter hop flare. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with crisp sharp and clean bitter hop finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a decent beer.

Pours a slightly hazy bright yellow with a thick white head. Nice lacing. Aroma is citrus. Flavor is lots of citrus, powerful hops and a touch bitter. Wasn't expecting this much flavor from this style but I like it. Feel is light and crisp. Overall a fun beer.

An Americanized Pilsner that does not resemble anything close to a German or Czech Pils but is still an enjoyable beer. Cloudy golden color.

Reminds me a little of Sam Adams Alpine Spring. Sweetish bready malt with a lemony hop impression. Also a bit of pine in the hopping. Would prefer something closer to style personally but this drinks nice.

Have always liked Schell's beers -- they're the regional that got me into better beer back in the mid-80s. So why not try their new seasonal?* If only I could have read the can behind the fully sealed six-pack.

Poured from the can into my tall Becher. I hope the 071819 ink-jet number on the bottom is a canning date.

L -- Crazy pale, hazy lemon yellow color (seriously talking a 1 on the SRM scale) with a sudsy white head that holds up to a point.

S -- Mix of piny and citrus hops in the nose (why I wish I could have read the can -- or this BA page {and I have a smart phone}). Not familiar with Callista hops, but I personally don't think they belong in a Pilsner. A touch of DMS, but no malt character coming thru at all.

T -- More pine and citrus notes in an APA symphony, lightest of cracker malt and good bitterness from the hops.

F -- Light body with a smooth to crisp mouthfeel.

O -- Okay, it's terribly drinkable on a hot summer day, but when I read Pils on a label, especially from a brewery that knows good German style, I don't want a new-age hop APA in my glass. Sorry guys, this one doesn't pass muster.

*I've been expertly informed that this is no seasonal, but Schell's new year-round Pilsner. More is the pity.

Poured from a can into a pilsner glass.

Pours straw-gold with a two-finger off-white head that quickly settles. Decent lacing. A bit of haziness in the brew, but not as hazy as I expected for the style.

Aromas of pale clean malt, floral and fruity hops, citrus, and grass.

Bready malt flavors fill the gap between the initial citrus on the tip of the tongue and the grassy hoppy finish.

The brew is medium-light with excellent carbonation and a nice dry crisp finish.

Slightly hazy golden yellow with gobs of rising bubbles. About the right amount of haze for a kellerbier (this isn't a haze-bro style, after all). 1 inch of white head from an "ordinary" pour into a pilsner glass. Leaves thick rings of lacing as the head recedes, and heavy lacing on the opposite side of the glass as you drink.

Crisp aroma of mild citrus, bread, floral, perhaps lemon.

Initial feel starts with a good carbonation bite; solid body for the style.

Taste is the bready malts but transitions quickly to a dominant hop citrus taste, again with the floral / lemon taste. (By "dominant" I mean over the malt flavors. This is not anywhere close to being an IPL. The citrus flavor is mild compared with IPA-styles). Mild hop bitterness begins in the middle and carries through into the finish and lingers in the aftertaste. Finish is dry and crisp. The flavor profile favors the hops over the malts resulting in a more Americanized than German presentation. A good tasting, refreshing beer nonetheless.

From a 12oz can:

Appearance: Slightly hazy yellow, ok head.

Smell: Hit of skunk, then hay grass.

Taste: Light breadiness, bit of lemon, moderate grassy hop finish.

Overall: Nice easy drinking kellerbier. Interesting lemon note to it adds some depth to the standard breadiness and grassy flavors.
