Appearance: Pours a medium, muddy-water, brown color with a white head. SRM of 16. Doesn't look like an IPA, but it's unique. (3.50)
Aroma: Strong aromas of dank sweet cantaloupe and sweet melon. A touch of ripe pineapple, tangerine, and sweet berries. (3.50)
Flavor: Initially has this woodsy and smokey quality. Then the fruit comes forward with more berry, melon, and cherry. Maybe caramel malts, but not sweet so it gives a touch of cardboard. Then as it finishes it is dry, but the smokey quality comes forward. Not really spicy like rye that I expected. Also dryer than I expected. More smokey though. (3.75)
Feel: Lighter-bodied. Clean, Dry and not bitter nor spicy, yet finishes with a stale smokiness on the palate.
Overall: My first official Rye IPA. It wasn't spicy like rye that I expected. Rather it has a stale and dry wood and smokiness. Light, crisp, and cleaner than I expected. Sort of reminds me of a Scottish ale. Pretty good though and nearly sessionable. (Final Rating: 3.65)

Can. Off white head. Lace. Color is a burnt autumn amber.
Big rye malt bill all around. A nice grapefruit and orange zest. Bready and biscuity malts. A touch of resin and stickiness. This one surprised me. Has a west coast flavor with a midwest malt build. I dig it.

Slightly hazy deep amber color with a large, dense head that had good longevity. Hoppy aroma that has pine, grass, mint, and a herbal hint. Pick up a little spice from the rye. Flavor is an interesting combination of hops. Starts really herbal but then transitions to citrus and melon. Not as much rye in the flavor as I would of wanted. I wanted something along the lines of the retired Emerald Rye level. A little bit of sweetness lingers on the palate. Medium body and suitably carbonated. A nice IPA but I want more rye.

Pours a dusky, clear red-amber in color, topped with an off white head. I would think that this one would have near-excellent (“brilliant”) clarity, but it’s a bit murky, with very fine carbonation.
BIG hop character on the nose - probably the “hoppiest” and most aromatic lager or ale ever brewed by August Schell, although there have been a few close contenders. Rye character also apparent on the nose. Spicy...
Spicy, and very lightly sweet, with plenty of “juiciness” on the first sip. Notes of citrus and tropical fruit... it’s almost as if the brewer(s) are channeling the current IPA trends! Berry (strawberry) notes, a bit of indistinct pepper (black/white) from the hops...
There’s some warmth here, too, as is to be expected for the style; My guess is that this one pushes the 6.5 a 7.0% ABV range, but it’s super-easy to drink at this strength.
Rye aromatics dominate the drink, and make for a very enjoyable and very drinkable beer. Lighter to medium bodied. Bitterness is there, I’m guessing around 65 IBU, so it’s a fairly traditional take on an American style / West Coast IPA.
Altogether a decent beer and worth tracking down as the first IPA from a brewery that for many years swore that they would never brew an IPA!
