Poured to a dark amber color almost black. Was very clear with a small white head that would sustain for a few drinks.

Had a banana easter aroma, a coffee smell, clove, and some other spices.

Could defiantly taste the banana and clove I think. A little nutty. Sweet and delicious!

Light body in you mouth with medium carbonation.

This beer was delicious! Had many the other night!

On-tap at Stub and Herb's by the U of M. Appeared a dark brown with red highlights and an off-white head. The aroma is rich with DMS/cooked corn, sour bread, and cocoa. The flavor follows up with raw and clean barley flavor, dark cookie, and slight hit of balancing bitterness at the end. Very drinkable and tasty, not a bit bland. Even the corn seems to be in place considering the aim of this beer. I'd recommend this beer. Find it and try it before its gone.

Schell's....you have a winner here. Thanks for a great tasting beer. Even though it is limited, I was fortunate in trying some at my local watering hole.

Appearance - Very dark to almost black. 1/2 inch head that stayed around for some time. Great color. Reminded me of a good stout or porter but thinner.

Smell - Good. Clean. Refreshing. Need I say more. Get one.

Taste - Now this is what impressed me. Not complex with many levels but awesome. Great overall taste. I highly recommend this beer. Shells, this is your best special Anniversary Beer to date. I know that this is number 4 in a series, but this one is top.

Mouthfeel - Thin but hits the spot. Fantastic.

Drinkatility - Since i can only get this at my local bar and grill, the drinkabiltiy is some what lower. If this would come in bottle form...HELLO!!! I could put down several of these tasty beers.

On tap at Stub and Herbs. This beer arrived a very dark brown, nearly black color. The head is a solid inch of foam, which left nice rings of lacing down the glass until the beer was gone. The aroma is of caramel, roasted malt, burnt malt, and a hint of spice. The taste is a lot like the aroma...tons of malt with some nice subtleties. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a creamy texture and lively carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice beer. Of the four beers so far in Schell's Anniversary series this is my least favorite, but that says more about how good the other three beers were than about this beer being bad. I would love to drink this beer often. Come to think of it it is somewhat odd that a brewery that prides itself on its German heritage doesn't brew a regular or even seasonal schwarzbier.

I hadn't expected to like this beer as much as I did. This one is really quite good.
Nice really malty aroma.. Rich malt character, almost roasty, but more of a strong toasty and consistent persistent aroma.
Not black, but a very dark rich red. Lager clear. Initial firm head is decently persistent.
Full rich flavor, reasonable dry, roast /tost is more subdued than in aroma, and blunt, somewhat, the rich malt flavors. Slight sweet caramel and fairly strong malty flavors. Little hops to speak of, other than for balancing.
Typically rich for brewery and usual lager smoothness. Moderately and appropriately carbonated.
Drinks really well. Not heavy and fully flavored.
Thanks Bryan. Good times.

A- Dark amber red in color with nice fluffy off white head. Good retention and nice lacing.

S- Malty aromas up front, roasted nuts, caramel, and a hint of chocolate. Some earthy spice notes along side the sweetness. Light hop presence.

T- Light nutty herbal flavors up front with hints of toffee and some floral and earthy flavors giving the beer a light spiciness.

M- Light bodied nice silky mouth feel. Good bite from carbonation and hops.

Overall- This is what I have come to expect from most Schell's beer, Some good character but nothing to make it a great beer.

Hot diggity- damn! This is the best so far of their series. Poured with a lovely full frothy foamy textured head. Color is a very dark reddish brown. Aroma is a roasty malty a bit fruity and balanced. Flavor is very similar. Classic schwartzbeer profile. Smooth. Not too heavy; quaffable. Nice finish. Definitely a session beer. Be great with hearty foods as well. Congrats to the Schell folks!

Smell - Malty.

Taste - Very good. Malty with some caramel.

Mouthfeel - light bodied and clean.

Drinkability - Very drinkable. I wish this one was available permanently.
