Hello. This is the pilot speaking, and we do hope you're enjoying your flight... of beer! We are wrapping up our series of international flights this season, with our last stop in Scotland! This Scotch Ale is cozy as a wool sweater, with notes of toasted sweet bread, raisin, and hints of chewy caramel. A perfect pairing for a snowy, merry gathering with loved ones this holiday season.

Sweet bready/biscuity malt with distinctive additional notes of raisins and dark fruits...black cherries, dark berries......deeper in a bit of caramel and toasted malts.....very light touch of smokiness....very light...

If drinking this blind I'd have a hard time calling it a scotch ale.... ....some characteristics actually remind more of a Belgian Dubbel.

Either way it's excellent and I'd love to see this as a future Snowstorm recipe. GREAT tasting beer.

Poured from a can. Dark caramel in color with a large foamy tan head and some lacing. Smell is light but grain, malt and caramel present. Flavors of dark fruit, caramel, malt and bourbon. Flavors all come together really well. Very good!

This beer pours a deep mahogany color. When held up to the light I get hints of amber in the color. The head is 2 finger and tan. Head retention is decent. There's a bit of lacing on the glass.
The aroma is a bit of caramel coming through. I also get some dark chocolate in the aroma.
Taste - is a pleasing mix of chocolate and caramel flavors. Caramel seems to be more up front and the chocolate hits more on the back and lingers. I get hints of raisin coming through in the flavor as well. This is a very malty beer.
Body is pretty solid and full feeling. Very smooth feeling.
Delicious beer and another solid beer from Schell's.

From a 12 oz can into my Bell’s snifter, hickory brown with a khaki head, good retention. Nose is lots of really nice malt: some biscuit, some sweet bread, some raisin, a little smoke. Taste follows the nose fairly exactly.

12oz can. Can bottom is stamped for best by date of '041323'.
Amber brown colored body. Light beige colored head, which sticks around as a bubbly cap and ring. Leaves behind scattered webs of lacing.
Aroma of raisin, date, green apple and caramel.
Taste is toasted malts, with flavors of dark bread, caramel, toffee, red grape, raisin, and prune. Toffee and dark berry mix together in the aftertaste.
Medium plus mouth feel. Silky, but rather drying. Very good carbonation.
This has lots of flavor with the mixture of dark fruits and dark bread caramel.

Poured from the can, aggressively.

Pale tan head, with good lacing. Garnet brown in color, with green excellent clarity.

Bittersweet nose, lightly roasted (almost smokey) malt profile, but clean — no off-style notes. No hop* notes to speak of, either.

Very faint biscuit notes at mid palate, but this has caramel and treacle and “sweet malt” in abundance. And to that end the malt profile is fairly involved, with 2-row, Special W, Chocolate malt, roasted Barley, and Golden Promise.

The end result is a flavor profile jam-packed with the old school “Scotch Ale” character that anyone familiar with the style will appreciate. Light bitterness, of course, but the malt sweetness is in no sense overwhelming.

Excellent drinkability.

A sipper… and apparently it is the very last brew in the brewery’s limited, Pilot Batch series. Adios to another era of limited brews from August Schell!

*Fuggle and EKG, for the record.

Can. Beige head. Lace.

Copper bronze color.

A little smokey notes, some bacon, caramel, toffee, dried apple skins, raisins, bready. Smooth and flavorful. Very easy drinking for 7%
