a really neat brew here, didnt even know these guys made these kind of beers anymore, and the little genie bottle is awesome. its a funky saison in oak dry hopped with hallertau blanc, brewed in 2016 bottled in 2017, certainly mature now. our bottle also lists 7.2% abv rather than the lower number posted here. the first pour is delicate and clear, the last a little more orange juice looking, not still bright in color and not real heavy looking. the only thing lacking in this beer for me really is carbonation, i want this to effervesce and pop and it barely fizzles, other than that, its money. its not too sour which is cool, its kind of french saison yeasty to me too with some wine character and tannins from the oak too it seems, not to mention the hops, which are holding on great for how old this is. i get a lot of brett too, soft but distinctive, a lemon piquancy, some neat farmy esters, and the hops are really compatible. white wine grapes, white peaches, and juicy honeydew melon all come from the hops, no bitterness, very little fade. its off dry overall, drinks juicy, and seems lighter than it is even with all the woodiness on it. its simple but its also subtly complex, which is how i want this sort of saison to be, and overall its quite impressive, even the sedimented bottom inch or two of the bottle is delicious. neat one to share with the boys, even if we all just drank way too much beer this weekend...
