Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: New England Double / Imperial IPA
Glass: Pure Project 14-oz. Teku glass
Price: $19.99 for a 4-pack
From: Total Beverage in Westminster, Colo.
Purchased: Nov. 27, 2020
Consumed: Dec. 4, 2020
Misc.: No canned on date; Split 4-pack with Sonny
Picked up way too much beer on a recent work trip to the Boulder area. Basically searched for Knotted Root, Outer Range, New Image, WeldWerks and Cerebral, among others, only finding the latter two at the one place I was at. Gave this a 4 on Untappd the night I bought it at the hotel, writing, “Outstanding I think. Full review another time.” Untappd description was, “Our 5 Year Anniversary Double Dry hopped Double IPA with El Dorado, Strata, Idaho 7.”
Poured a medium yellow-to-light gold hazy color with two fingers of frothy white head. Just a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Excellent layered foamy lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Got that El Dorado right away in the nose, followed by Idaho 7 and Strata. Also pear, peach, stone fruit, vanilla, mango, iced tea, dank pine and herbal. Much better out of the can with everything enhanced. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted about as good as the nose. Kind of getting a cookie taste, reminding me slightly of a Monkish beer called Space Cookie. In order got El Dorado, Idaho 7, pear, peach, vanilla (vanilla cookie?), stone fruit, mango, sweet tea, dank pine, herbal, grapefruit and berry. Not much Strata. Fairly smooth for 9 pct. ABV. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Average carbonation. Creamy texture. Long finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This was outstanding overall. Glad I picked up a 4-pack, even at the $19.99 price tag. (Overall - 4.00)
