12 ounce can into a tulip snifter. Had 3/1/21.

Pours a bright, clear, golden yellow with a half inch foamy head and some foamy lacing. Active carbonation. Aromas of Belgian yeast, malt, some spices- mostly cloves, light funk. Has a sweet aroma, a little fruity, too. Similar flavors- malt, Belgian yeast, some spices- again, mostly cloves and light cardamom, maybe some candi sugar that accounts for the light sweetness. Has a bit of hop bitterness, especially on the finish. Mostly smooth, a good light to medium body, well carbonated.

A decent effort of a BSPA. Has a really good aroma, the only complaint would be that it’s a little hoppy for the style. Enjoyable.

Served from the can in a Mickey Finn's shaker pint glass.

Parents keep giving their kids these strange names nowadays... Anyway, this stuff pours a mostly clear sunset brass topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises clove, lemon zest, light cardamom, biscuit, flowers, and Belgian yeast. The taste brings in more of the same, that Belgian yeast doing some nice heavy lifting. The body is a stolid medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, a rather nice BSGA, not one that's gonna be jumping the line of the classics any time soon, but certainly a strong competitor, especially to things like Duvel and the like.

Carried from the curb at Beermiscuous, my source for obscure Chicagoland micros.
Miskatonic is maturing nicely in that they can produce a BSPA like this at such a young age. It is a difficult style to brew well. Surprisingly for a seven year old, Miskatonic has a saison as a cash cow.

As for Bonjour, it has below average Looks; too little foam, a bit too clear to convey the cloudiness of fruit and no foam. (A good yeast can give a BSPA good Looks... and it cannot.) Aromatics improve as I detect the citrus and spices... even some peppa as residue from what the yeast did right. Tastes improve further with more yeast character and, in the Belgian tradition, generous brewers sugar. But there is a cost to this short-cut: detectable alcohol. Despite its flaws, this medium-mouth BSPA is refreshing. Miskatonic will get closer to the Belgian masters in the brew's next rendition.

So for my micro-review, Miskatonic seems like it is developing well. But that opinion just comes from their website and BA's count of which brews get rated most. Despite those limitations, these guys got the right spirit: experiment, think, experiment again... and stay in business. Good luck !
