Sometimes called a cream or milk stout, once obscure in the United States, this style is experiencing a comeback. Light on your palette with notes of chocolate, coffee, and a sweet finish, this beer will surprise you in good ways.

On draft at brewery

Black and opaque, tan head. Slighlty sweet aroma, some milk chocolate. Taste isnt too sweet, just right. Body could be thicker, but decent.

I had a pint of this at the brew pub and took a growler home. Out of the growler, it's difficult to get a good head, but this wasn't a problem at the pub. I'm also only pouring into an 8 ounce sampler. A lingering thin lace is present. The beer is a very dark brown, scarcely admitting the light of a Mini Maglite.

The aroma is subtle, but hints at the malty goodness within. Strong notes of dark fruit are apparent, with a bit of chocolate and coffee. It's very smooth, with no off flavors. It's fairly sweet but not overly so. It could perhaps use a bit more nutty bitterness. Body is definitely lacking for this style.

This is a decent first offering by this brewery, which has proven an instant hit in my town. They have big shoes to fill but they are doing it admirably thus far. This beer is perhaps a bit raw and could use some work- the body would be light even for a porter. Nevertheless, it is very smooth and drinkable. In any case, it will surely be revisited and re-reviewed in the near future.

Nice pour at the taproom and a smaller grower fill that I shared with the inlaws.. Standard black brew with a nice enough dark tan head... Roasty with light char... Very balanced... Perfect nose and flavor... Maybe could use a little more body.
