Golden Orange and clear (SRM-3) in a Crispi-Boi tulip glass form Pretentious Beer Glass Co. Adding the yeast transforms it to a muddy SRM-4. Regardless, the fluffy white head slowly morphs into a dense 1/4" almond white froth, then holds for the duration. Spots of lace are intermixed with a few patches.
This is a highly fragrant beer, even from a distance. Bold spices are equal to the oak. Faint smokiness of a smoldering campfire is revealed as the beer is sipped. Pair and lime counter floral notes, both being secondary though building with warmth. The signature light struck aroma of skunk is well in the background. Significant warmth also brings out wet socks.
Oh, wow! The skunkiness is surprisingly prominent in the first sip. The flavors are completely inverted from the aroma, with oak tannins building from modest at entry to strong in the finish. Lime and spice linger in the middle, then the limes burst forward as it warms. The finish is long and bold all the way through. Acid is balanced against a light consortium of bitter, sour, sweet components.
A medium body and soft slick texture of old jersey cotton. Carbonation is soft and fine as it prickles the tongue. Alcohol is as expected, as is the mouthwatering dryness.
This is such a nice beer to consume on a dreary afternoon. The earthy goodness exudes warm feelings, while the dryness holds one to a slow pace.
