April 17, 2026... OCCASION: taking in God Land at the behest of a trusted colleague, with a beer that might withstand the harshness of the Dutch island's rugged geography... GLASSWARE: nonick pint... pours a ruby brown body with little carbonation... its nearly opaque body does not allow for effervescence to be measured... an ochre sponge, its head simmers quickly to a splotchy ring... sweet caramel, biscuit, toffee, and sharp sugars amount to an alluring aroma... its draw is buttery, soft, and easily drinkable, approximating an English mild... light at the start, it finishes with some heat and recognition, surpassing its 6.2% ABV... a chewy, almost whiskey-like thinness as it completes its passage... caramel is thick and rich, with a sight malty backbone that provides a hearty profile... much like God Land, this has a way of sneaking up on you and finding relevancy... peaty, strong, and flavorful... a slid offering for this time of year...
