Picked up a 16 oz can from the Blue Door Bottleshop 10-20-21 for $6.00. No canning date; consumed 1-25-22. Cold stored since purchase.
Beer poured black with an okay tan head.
Nose has an herbal tome to it, like a Christmas brew. Expecting the vanilla adjunct but not getting that.
Taste is a large mildly roasted malt base infused with an allspice like vibe finishing balanced with some chili heat.
Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and pretty smooth.
Overall this was an okay stout, just something off about what i was perceiving vs the label ingredients.

Served in a 16 oz can purchased from Tavour and shipped to my house in mid-December 2021. Consumed on 1/2/2022 in an Arvon Brewery tulip glass. Nearly dropped the can pulling it from the fridge (much to my wife’s amusement) and opened it up to a slight over-fizzing of foam. No spill or lost product so no problem. No date on the can, but clearly stated in the bottom portion of the label, it says “This beer is dedicated to those we have loved and lost and the ones who have survived for whom life will never be the same. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this beer will be donated to Breast Cancer Research Foundation.” Lastly, this rendition is noted as 11.0% ABV on the can, not the 12.5% indicated on this website.
Look: Pours a jet black color with a slightly fizzy mocha speckled colored head. Lots of initial carbonation that quickly dissipates as the beer settles into the glass. Reduced to a thin foam ring around the inner edge of the glass that also doesn’t last for very long.
Smell: Not as pronounced of a scent as I would have expected given this beer presents itself as a Mexican hot chocolate stout. I get some light notes of chili and chocolate and a smodgen of spice but overall not too much character on the nose.
Taste: A more apparent presence from what was described in the smell. Malt, spice, and some baker’s chocolate. Nothing amazing, and not very spicy as far as a Mexican hot chocolate profile is concerned.
Feel: A little thin with a slightly dry finish. Pretty smooth for 11.0%. Nothing real noteworthy to be honest.
Overall: A ho-hummer. But it’s for a good cause so kudos to that.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a quarter finger, dark khaki that persists for a minute, then gets quite fizzy and dissipates to sparse patches with almost no lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cinnamon, cocoa and green and chili peppers. Flavor is dark toasted malt, chili peppers (both the fresh chili flavor and heat), cinnamon and cocoa. Noticeable chili burn and residual Mexican chocolate flavor in the finish, but the heat tapers off quickly. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Delivers on its promise of a Mexican chocolate and chili inspired big stout. The chocolate is particularly authentic tasting, with the perfect balance of dry, semi-sweet chocolate and cinnamon. The chilis are also handled very well, with a distinct burst of heat, but not to point of overwhelming the finish or the nice chocolate flavors. There is fresh green pepper flavor as well, which fits in nicely. The fizzy head was odd and a little disconcerting, but carbonation was fine, so not a problem. One of the best chili beers I've had and an excellent Mexican chocolate one as well. I liked this a lot. Unlikely, but I'd like to try other offerings from this brewery again. They sound like a great operation with giving back to their local community and thoughtful charities.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a short dark tan head that left a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of chili peppers are present in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste is dominated by flavors of chili peppers along with underling notes of cocoa nibs and hints of cinnamon.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer hides its alcohol very well from the taste but the only thing that impacts its drinkability is the heat from the chili peppers.

Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger thick brown foamy head that was packed with tiny bubbles, dissipating slowly and hissing as it went down and left minimal spotty lacing that had cinnamon speckles in the head. The head didn't stick as well as some stouts, but this can was almost a year old so I'll let it slide on the looks.
Smells of cocoa powder, cinnamon, dark chocolate, brown sugar, burnt coffee grinds, earthy notes and chili peppers. The nose brings some herbal and piney notes along with the malt backbone. Nice smelling brew with all the ingredients working well together.
Flavor has a touch of heat and more spices like black pepper, cumin and allspice to go along with the cinnamon. The vanilla shows up and works well with the dark chocolate, cocoa, burnt coffee grinds and roasted malts. The alcohol is completely masked with all the rich chocolate malts, and it even has some metallic/iron notes as it fades. Overall a nice Mexican coffee style imperial stout, out of NC no less. Definitely a solid stout.

Appearance - Pours viscus black with huge mocha colored head with excellent retention. Spotty sheets of lacing.
Aroma - Mild milk chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, you can smell the chilies, roasted malts.
Taste - Rich decadent chocolate, vanilla, not as much cinnamon as was in the nose. The flavor from the chilies is there really earthy but no where near the heat I expected. Roasted malts, oak, light smoke.
Feel - Really creamy smooth feel, warming from the chilies and the alcohol but very smooth and easy drinking. Slightly dry finish.
Overall - Well dome stout more bitter than sweet flavors, mild smooth heat from the chilies.

@ Tasty Beverage (Raleigh)
Black with a slim tan head that fades to naught. Aroma is mostly a nice cocoa and chili blend with vanilla and cinnamon. Sweet, thick chocolate flavor...light booze, vanilla, cinnamon, low chili. Tasty as a dessert beer. Thick and chewy, but not too sticky. Quite the hefty, flavorful stout though. Good in small amounts.

A: Pours a thick, viscous, opaque yet still clear jet black in color with light to moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and extremely faint very dark cola brown colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy dark mocha head that slowly reduces to a large patch of very thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer (85%) and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of dark roasted + chocolate malts and strong aromas of dark, rich milk chocolate + vanilla + cinnamon as well as moderate aromas of slightly spicy chili peppers.
T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of ark roasted + chocolate malts with moderate amounts of lactose sweetness. That is followed by strong flavors of dark rich milk chocolate with moderate to strong flavors of vanilla + cinnamon and a moderate flavor of roasted coffee. Just shy of moderate flavors of spicy chili peppers that contribute some moderate amounts of spicy warming heat. Light amounts of earthy hops and a light to moderate amount of roasty bitterness which lingers through the finish.
M: Full bodied with slightly less than moderate amounts of carbonation. Silky smooth with a hint of chili pepper warming in the finish.
O: Drinks much easier than the 12.5% ABV (more like a 6-7% beer) with a full body, lower carbonation and excellent combination of "Mexican Chocolate" flavors and aromas. Extremely enjoyable, amazing first offering tried from this brewery (and I have had a lot of Mexican Chocolate Stouts which I quite enjoy).
