From the pint can of uncertain age, it pours a stygian dark black with a modest light brown head that slowly reduces to a thin layer, The nose gets spicy dark chocolate and coffee. The mouth gets black malts and spice leaving behind a lingering char.

Bought with the BeerAdvocate box set from 2024, and finally opened this evening as I am drinking down my stash beers, and this is on the list.
A - Pours opaque, with some dark brown and red color notes, but no transparency, a decent tan head that fades quickly to a small bubble wisp and a ring on the glass wall. No lacing, really.
S - Best thing I've smelled in a while. The first note I pulled out was the cinnamon, but there is cocoa and pepper present, and a big malty vanilla sweetness bubbling more quietly beneath. Very little sign of the alcohol, beyond a subtle warmth.
T - Flavor is rich and shockingly deep. The front is vanilla and cocoa, but the cinnamon and pepper notes do follow quickly, and the malty notes open in the middle. There is a vegetal note mingling with strong chocolate currents in the close, with a cinnamon line that lingers out after the finish.
M - Decent but the main knock against this brew. There is a big body, as expected, and mild carbonation (not too surprising given the age), but there is a lingering coating on the tongue that is not a deal-breaker, but does detract. The subtle alcohol warmth, given the ABV, is a major argument in favor, so I still endorse, just not quite as strongly.
O - I am glad I picked this one up tonight. A superb stout, with great use of adjuncts. I prefer beers without them, but this certainly makes the case for why their judicious use can be a boon for the final product. Delicious.

A: opaque; very dark brown - almost black in color; 1 finger finely pored dark brown head that receded to a thin tight collar; no lacing;
S: deeply roasted grain, bittersweet chocolate, and heat from the chiles;
T: cinnamon first, then vanilla, bittersweet chocolate, and deeply roasted grain get added in; at the end, the heat comes back as well;
M: full bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish; alcohol is warming, but not hot at all;
O: this is really well done; each ingredient in the beer is clearly distinguishable and bright; the flavors come together very well;

Poured from pint can into snifter.
A: Pours thick and extremely dark black brown hue with 1/4 inch dark mocha head that quickly settles to a thin skim.
S: Dark chocolate, molasses, cinnamon, espresso, vanilla, chilies, and hints of tobacco and leather. Potent!
T: Smooth dark chocolate, cinnamon, and chilies akin to a Mexican mocha. Supporting notes of vanilla, molasses, and espresso.
M: Heavy body. Thick and viscous feel. Layers of dark sweetness count balanced with the earthy spice of cinnamon and the hot (yet mild) spice of the chilies.
D: If you like Mexican mochas, you will really enjoy this beer. Perfect amount of chilies to bring some heat and yet not overpower the other elements.

Poured a maroonish black color into a Dogfish Head nonic pint glass with a 1/2 finger and raspberry brown head that dissipates quickly, but looks very appealing. Aromas of roasted malts, cocoa, and cinnamon are up front with hints of vanilla and chili in the background. Taste follows nose with a mild heat that lingers from the peppers. Mouth is medium to full and in-between creamy and syrupy .Very well put together brew.

Querido Y Perdido pours black with a small but long-lasting tan head. The aroma has notes of chilies and vanilla. The flavor and feel are thick and creamy, with lots of vanilla hints of chocolate near the end, with a mellow chili flavor mixing in throughout, giving just a slight tad of heat. Overall, what a combination of great flavors that came together!

16oz can. No dating information found.
Black colored body. Brown head very rapidly dissipates, leading to a few small islands and a thin ring. Tiny spots of lacing are left behind. Most of the glass interior stays clean.
Aroma is immediately cinnamon and vanilla, then dark roasted malts and cocoa. Searchable chilie note.
Taste is multiple smooth waves of cocoa, dark chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, and repeated sips result in a noticeable chile sting. Aftertaste matures into a dark chocolate soaked cherry expression.
More than medium mouthfeel. Sticky, syrup texture. Higher ABV% is coated with cinnamon and chocolate. Supportive carbonation.
Dark chocolate sweet, because of the vanilla, and the cinnamon is manageable and the chile is devoid of burn.

Well constructed pastry stout. Big abv but not noticed,cinammon forward mainly, some heat, vanilla glues it all together, only a spot of chocolate on aftertaste.

Can pour - dark as night, brown leather head, minimal scattered lacing. Nose has a Mexican hot chocolate thing going on and taste definitely follows. Cocoa, cinnamon and chili linger on the finish.

Dark, dark brown pour with a deep tan head that unfortunately disappears instantly. The nose is primarily chocolate. But the big payoff is flavor. This stout passes one of my critical tests of a superior brew. The flavors evolve consistently from the top of the glass to the bottom. This is an exceedingly well-brewed stout. Cinnamon and chocolate kick off the party with underlying vanilla in support. Then the spicy bite of chiles gives the beer a kicky finish. Go get some!

Finally back to the beer box (because I couldn't find the other stout I was going to drink). Tall can into snifer, it pours cola black with a small, light brown head that fades into nothing. Had some trouble determining the smell, tbh, but it's a good mix of cocoa, vanilla, chili, and cinnamon. The taste follows. Nice little tongue-tingle without burn. Slightly sweet on the finish, this is creamy and warm but quite smooth. Not much carbonation. The char is ever-prescent, which can border on too much with the aggressive cinnamon.
It's a good one.

Pint can. Body pours, a dark black with a light brown head no lacing of significance. Aroma is a pleasant mix of cinnamon, vanilla, coconuts, and chilies.
Taste follows nose with the cinnamon and cocoa nibs flavors marrying well. Finish pulls the chilies into the mix though they are not hot and the light sweetness moderates the other flavors. As it warmed, my perception of the cinnamon moved from subtle to the edge of too much. Not much sign of the ABV.
Light carbonation and a soft mouthfeel.

Black as coal, ink or black hole whatever you choose this beer is dark! Darker tan head. Nose is very much charr. Taste is initially cinnamon then the char hits the palate. Then a slight tingle from the chile peppers. Nice stout!

Black with a modest head. Pleasant but not overpowering aroma: chocolate, cinnamon & vanilla. Slightly sweet & chocolate & cinnamon up front, a good amount of vanilla & finally the peppers. A bit thin, but with enough alcohol & chile heat to entertain the mouth. Overall: it will probably burn holes in my stomach but it is delicious.

Pours oil black, no light shall be allowed in. Head was Coca Cola fizz sizzle that settled down quickly. Aroma is cinnamon , chocolate. Taste is immediately dark chocolate, super dark because I believe the snap of the Chile with the nibs is very interesting. It’s also sweet. Creamy, warmy, even snappy prickly heat, like pepper. Really tasty!

Poured from 16oz can into my Belvárosi sörfeszstivál tulip.
Appearance: entirely black with no light let through at all, topped with a finger of dense and creamy dark-brown foam. Beautiful.
Smell: rich combination of malt, chocolate, and cinnamon aromas; the vanilla and chilies come in a bit later and are more subtle, but the chilies add a dash of fruitiness that I like. Quite good.
Taste: very sweet, of course, but otherwise in really good balance. Cinnamon, vanilla, and chilies are all ingredients that can easily overwhelm a beer or throw the balance way off; in this case, that mostly has not happened. There’s kind of an acidic hit that takes away from the general smoothness, but overall this is a darn tasty beer.
Mouthfeel: rich and smooth texture, and don’t get me wrong, it’s creamy, but I think a hint more carbonation would really kick this up a notch.
Overall: a very solid flavored stout. Maybe not quite the best, but darn good.
