330ml bottle from Beer52:
Black bodied with a 3cm, foamy tan head that settles a third of that & it looks quite thick. The nose is dark & malty with some lactose & faintly roasted notes then a tiny bit of orange at the end. The taste is more milky & smooth with dark malts, faint coffee & chocolate touches on top of a silky, medium body that's well balanced too.

500 mL bottle from the LCBO; best before July 2020 and served at cellar temperature. Haven't seen a new Welsh beer around here in ages.
Pours jet black, with (what I thought was) a gentle pour causing more than two fingers of soapy, puffy, light tan-coloured head to erupt from the surface. It seeps away over the next ten minutes or so, leaving behind a quarter-inch cap of spongy foam and a narrow band of lace; looks good so far. The nose leans towards the sweet side, with toffee and milk sugar coming through alongside roasted malt notes of dark chocolate, coffee and cocoa powder; also a few hints of dark fruit.
The taste mostly follows the aroma, with roasted malts doing the majority of the legwork - flavours of cocoa and coffee with cream at the forefront, with hints of bitter coffee grounds coming through towards the finish. Sweet-ish aftertaste of milk sugar mingling with bittersweet chocolate. Light-medium in body, with low carbonation levels and a smooth mouthfeel; not quite thin, but not as fulfilling as I'd have hoped for a stout with lactose in it. I finished my glass easily enough.
Final Grade: 3.68, a B grade. Boss Black keeps things simple - this is a straightforward, nearly no-frills stout, with the milk sugar being the only real deviation from that template - making this basically a milk stout IMO, but it's a serviceable one that I had no real issues with. If you're looking for something dark and a little sweet with a session-worthy abv, this might just be the ticket you're after. I might pick it up again while it's still around, but it's not high priority.

Pours black with no head. Sweeter than your average stout. I also taste a little smokiness. There is an unusual taste that is a bit off-putting, but I can’t put my finger on it. Overall: average.
