A big offering to celebrate a big milestone: the 2-year anniversary of The Virginia Beer Company! Originally released in March 2017 for VBC's 1-year anniversary, Waypost: Black returns in March 2018 for Waypost Week!
A dark base blending hefty amounts of Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, and Midnight Wheat creates a robust, jet black beer softened with additions of Flaked Oats. Complemented with a boozy vanilla bite contributed from time spent aging in Bourbon barrels, Waypost: Black is inextricably linked to its sister variants, Waypost: Red & Waypost: Purple, by unifying accents of chocolate on the finish.
This beer is ready to be enjoyed now or suitable for aging, fit to mark the milestones along your journey as it has for us.
Grain Bill: 2 Row, Munich, Chocolate Malt, Victory, Flaked Oats, Roasted Barley, Midnight Wheat, and Crystal 60. Hops: Columbus and East Kent Golding. Aging: Bourbon Whiskey barrels.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a dark, mahogany brown color and a thick, opaque consistency. There was a 3/4", creamy, tan-colored, long-lasting head. Fantastic lacing.
S: A very nice aroma of coffee, chocolate, bourbon, roasted malt, and dark fruit.
T: Tasted of mild vanilla notes, a good shot of dark chocolate (very prevalent), some roasted malt (present throughout), a little dark fruit (plums?), a bit of coffee, and some bourbon as well. This is a robust flavor that gets better as you go along. It's a little on the boozy side, but the coffee and chocolate balance it out. Complex and rich.
F: A fair amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Full-bodied.
O: An incredibly enjoyable stout. Drinkable.

Pours nearly black with a minimal head. Aroma is bourbon, dark chocolate, and vanilla. Taste is similar but with a slight sourness. Unfortunately, the sourness came out more as the beer warmed which hurt this beer quite a lot.

Had on tap at VBC. Very well made; good example. Flavor a bit light but still complex and notes of fruit not just BBA Bomb. Feel is velvety smooth. Nice job.

Picked this up in early April 2017 while vacationing in Williamsburg. Delicious!
Look: opaque jet black, with a half finger of beige head. Dissipated quickly, little lacing.
Smell: Dark fruits, cherries, dark chocolate. Subtle coffee notes.
Taste: Follow the nose. Dark fruits up front and on the back end. The bourbon is subtle, smooth. Not overpowering. Simply delicious.
Mouthfeel: Overall smooth, slightly oily. Very nice.
Overall: a solid barrel aged imperial stout. Very tasty brew! Only sorry I didn't grab a few more bottles of this. Cheers!
