In a full onslaught on the palate, every brewer has their take on how to overwhelm their fans with hop flavor, aroma and just the right kind of bitterness, The Virginia Beer Company goes wet. Fresh versions of Citra and Mosaic hops are frozen at peak freshness and then placed in their hazier IPA.
When Hops Attack has its sights on the tastebuds, its first teases the eye with a firmly hazy goldenrod appearance and a foamy, fluffy off-white crown. Bold aromas of citrus, tropical fruit, herbal presence and a sprucy edge gives the beer an appetizing upstart. Creamy and sweet once on the palate, the session starts with impressions of shortcake, honeysuckle and cereal.
Then the hops leap right out with a dominant citrus taste of red grapefruit, mandarin orange and lime with a backdrop of mango, passionfruit and papaya from a more tantalizing tropical complement. As the session rolls along, a smooth and herbal bitterness of black tea trends sprucy, grassy and pleasantly piney with a hoppy offset to the lingering malt profile.
Medium full in body, Hops Attack! finishes plump with malt yet bitter and sweet. the session ends smoothly bitter with a focus on fruit peels, fresh herb and a hint of hemp to close out a medium length aftertaste.

Pours brownish orange, like grapefruit juice. Has some particulate floating, but nothing too bad. Head is very white on contrast to color of beer. Nice lacing left behind. Nose is very citrusy. Flavors of citrus, pine, and a softness that I can pinpoint the flavor. Very good beer in my opinion.
