red ale with habanero peppers, cool beer, i like the idea of using a maltier sweeter base beer with a hotter pepper, this is a step up from the more common jalapeno blonde or cream ale, and i appreciate it being a little unique in this space. i have to imagine the peppers are seeded though, maybe even soaked to leach out some of the heat, as these are flavorful and identifiable as habanero peppers, but their heat is really tame, like too tame for the pepper, so i assume some treatment was done to them before brewing, if not, they couldnt have used very many at all. i like the interaction of the caramel notes in the grain and the citrusy flavor of the peppers, i think its well designed, but like the others i had in here, the execution is lacking a little bit, its overly sweet, the ferment is off slightly, and its lacking the high carbonation it seems to want. nutty and sturdy, even lightly english to me both in terms of grain and yeast, and just some mid tongue and back of throat pepper warmth at the conclusion of each sip. i was nervous about this one, and the control of the heat is impressive, but i wish for a better overall beer, like the quality has a little catching up to the thoughtfulness to do, but this is fun either way. a must try for the pepper beer enthusiasts!
