Poured from a 16oz bottle into a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep black color, with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains strong bourbon along with chocolate, coffee, molasses and roasted malts.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of bourbon, milk chocolate, molasses and coffee that are quickly followed by a hearty breadiness from a big roasted malt character. The hops presence is very mild as you would expect with this kind of beer. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp, very smooth and quite viscous, medium-to-heavy body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Very tasty, goes down dangerously easy, not too filling, strong kick, very good representation of style, this is a very good big stout to drink for a long time.

500ml bottle served in a Spiegelau tulip. Pours the color and clarity of cola with a rocky, quarter inch, khaki-colored head embedded with tiny ringlets. Head quickly disperses towards the shoulders leaving a sudsy film across the surface. Tiny swaths of lacing are present during the tasting. Nose expresses bourbon notes up-front, followed by a hint of vanilla and brown sugar. There's also a trace of wood towards the back. Taste consistent with nose; however, the elements come together in the flavor profile quite nicely and are more rounded out. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body (but closer to light), with a mild, even carbonation and a touch of acidity. That said, it comes off a little thin. Overall, really quite drinkable. Perhaps a little more time in the tank to meld things, but very solid off the bat. Bourbon is a little raw, but not unpleasantly so. Nice job.

Bottle purchased today at the brewery. 500 mL into an HF stem.

A: Aggressive pour yields a deep brown, almost black. Opaque, very little tannish head that sticks around.

S: Chocolate, vanilla, touch of oak, roasted malt. Some honey and hints of booze. Nice nose on this.

T: Follows the nose with a bit more vanilla and roast in the flavor. Very subtle heat on the finish, some oak, bourbon, touch of dark fruit as well.

M: A bit thin for the style, but still medium-bodied with minimal carbonation and slight heat. Finishes with booze on the end.

O: Extremely impressive for their first BA stout, and first imperial stout for that matter. No idea how long this was in barrels, or what barrels for that matter, but this is well done. Looking forward to the future.
