On-tap 1/28/2017 at the brewery in Providence, RI, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains very strong coffee, roasted malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with a strong black coffee flavor followed by a hearty roasted malt character. There are some background flavors of chocolate and smoke. The hops presence is very mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, decent kick, very good representation of style, this is a very good coffee porter to drink for a long time.

Oatmeal porter brewed with Dave's French Roast Coffee. Pours the color and clarity of cola with a tight, 1/8th inch, khaki-colored head that quickly disperses into a broken slick. Great nose on this beer - big roasted coffee notes without any of the vegetal nuances you sometimes find in coffee beers. Taste is a bit watered down. Coffee is not nearly as evident. There is also a hint of lactose that adds a little residual sweetness. Mouthfeel is light in body, with a watery texture and a mild, even carbonation. Overall, a decent porter; however, it comes off a bit thin in the flavor profile and body. Perhaps some flaked oats might help round out the body. That said, I'd be interested to try this on nitro as well as cask.
