Poured from a 16oz can into a snifter.

Pours a deep black inky body with a creamy brown head that reduces to a layer of retention.

Aromas are fresh coffee, vanilla, marshmallow, maple, milk chocolate.

On the tongue it’s lightly sweet with decadent coffee and milk chocolate, cocoa, sweet vanilla ice cream and marshmallow. Lightly roasty aftertaste.

The mouthfeel is what pushes this beer to the next level. Thick, rich, velvety like a coffee chocolate milkshake. And insanely drinkable for 8%.

This can’t be the same beer that others have reviewed, and i don’t think it is because a) it’s WAY WAY better than a 3.75, and other reviews describe it as thin when it’s not thin by any stretch of the imagination and b) the label says 8% and BA says 6.5%. It must be a varying recipe of the old nitro cart or a wildly good batch because honestly this is the best stout I’ve ever tasted out of RI and one of the best non BA coffee stouts I’ve had in a long time. I’ve had 6 cans and two draft pours and also did a side by side with single shot, and I prefer this to single shot 100% of the time.

If you have the chance to try or purchase this beer, max out! Long live has already mastered IPAs and if they continue to brew stouts like this, id say they’ve mastered them as well.

Poured from a growler filled at the brewery.

Pours a deep, dark brown color with a healthy 2 fingers of soapy tan head. The head leaves a few random splotches of lacing before settling into a thin sheet.

The aroma brings strong notes of coffee, vanilla, chocolate cake, and dark roasted malts. The back end gives a slight hint of floral hops.

The taste is hoppier up front, followed by a wave of coffee and dark chocolate. The back end has notes of caramel and vanilla before finishing with a strong charred, smokey character.

The feel is medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation. Way too thin for the style, and the alcohol burns a bit going down. Leaves a coating of charred remains on the mouth that refuses to go away.

Overall, a pretty solid stout that has balanced flavors and a sweet aroma. The feel is just way too thin with too strong an alcohol presence for my liking. Still worth trying.

Pours one shade shy of black with ruby highlights along the edges and a khaki-colored head that dissipates into an oily slick. Nose expresses coffee, roast and a hint of vanilla. Taste consistent with nose; however, it comes off a bit watered down in the flavor profile. Mouthfeel is light in body with a mild, even carbonation close to a cask offering in creaminess. Overall, a decent American Stout. Great nose; however, it comes off a bit watery in the flavor and texture.

On nitro-tap 5/5/2017 at the brewery in Providence, RI, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a large brown head that fades very slowly and leaves a very thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains strong coffee, roasted malts, chocolate and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with a strong and sweet coffee flavor. Then some background flavors of chocolate and smoke come in along with a hearty roasted malt character. The hops presence is very mild but brings a very good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Very tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a good stout to drink for a long time.
