Received from @Rug in Stout/Barleywine BIF #1
2022 version. Aged on bourbon soaked oak staves and has 12% ABV.
Poured the color of fresh honey and crowned with an off-white head that leaves excellent lacing.
Aroma lost on my Covid damaged nose.
Flavors are somewhat lighter than expected but feature raisins and plums and sweet bread. Zero bitterness, this is all malts driven.
Feel matches the flavors well; lightly viscous and encourages sipping.
Very nice non BA barley wine; thoroughly enjoyed.

Pours the color and clarity of cola with ruby highlights around the shoulder when backlit. A loose, khaki-colored head quickly disperses into a tight band around the shoulders. Nose express vinous notes upfront follow by notes of butterscotch. Flavor profile is a reverse of the nose - Butterscotch, cotton candy sweetness, followed by light vinous notes and some ethanol. Mouthfeel is light in body with an almost still carbonation and a light astringency. Overall, a nice example of the style.

No bottled date, but I picked this up the first day it was available, no more than 3 weeks on this thing
When I saw that LLB was doing an English style barleywine, I knew I had to have it. I’ve never seen this style from them, but they are incredibly talented brewers, and a staple of Rhode Island
Pours a very dark brown with just a finger of light brown head that quickly fades to a ring and leaves no lacing but has nice legs
The nose here is complex and sweet. Right away I get sweet marmalade and dates backed with brown sugar and dark bread. There may be just a hint of bourbon, mostly in the form of a light vanilla scent
The flavor opens up with raisins, dark malt and light bourbon before doubling down on the fruit with caramalized dates and orange peel. The aftertaste is long and contemplative, with notes of vanilla and sweet citrus
Full bodied (duh) and very mild carbonation, this is obviously a sipper. Surprisingly not much alcohol detected in the taste for 13.8%, but it tingles on the lips once in a while to remind you of its strength
Maybe I’m just a sucker for English barleywines, or just love a damn solid local beer, but this was fantastic. Complex but still very drinkable given the abv and the amount of flavors going on here
