Canned 8/10/21
I picked this one up from the brewery a few weeks back and I'm just getting around to it now. This style, for me at least, is a go to food beer, really enhancing most meals. Tonight I'm hitting this one solo, but I have the rest of the 4 pack ready to make some potentially delicious pairings. Let's dive in
Pours a semi-clear mahogany with 2 fingers of light tan head that fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
I tend to like an earthy roast in the style, but the nose here offers something much smoother, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm picking up on aromas of toffee, brown bread, English hops, light coffee, and raisin. Actually it's quite nice
Likewise, it is a smooth experience in taste too, this time to its detriment. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting medium roast coffee, vanilla, dark toast, toffee, and raisin. The swallow brings notes of smooth vanilla, milk chocolate, medium roast coffee, grassy hops, and doughy malt
A medium body pairs with moderate carbonation, resulting in a very slick beer. Finishes semi dry with a slight bite
This was good, but not great. Definitely not my preferred expression of the style, but I appreciate it for what it is. Maybe I'll have to pair it with some bigger meals than I usually do
