Canned 10/17/23. “Merry” stamped on the bottom of the can
It occurs to me that for as frequently I visit Long Live, I rarely bring beers home to review. However, this one was calling me when I stopped by the brewery earlier, I couldn’t resist some Czech Dark Lager for these cool fall nights. Let’s crack it open and see what their take on the style is all about
Pours a very dark brown with 3 fingers of creamy light tan head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves decent lacing
There’s definitely a substantial roast in the nose but it’s also nicely balanced. I’m picking up on aromas of dark toast, spent coffee beans, cocoa powder, raisin, earthy hops, black pepper, and light toffee
It doesn’t have quite the same balance in taste, coming off just a tad bland. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting dark toast, light roast coffee, biscuity malt, black pepper, raisin, sweet caramel, and light earthy hops. The swallow brings notes of biscuity malt, pumpernickel, vanilla, black pepper, raisin, cocoa powder, and light roast coffee
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes mostly dry and roasty
Well it’s not my favorite, but it could be a hell of a lot worse

16oz. Can served in a willibecker. Pours a lovely chestnut color with ruby highlights around the base when backlit. Two finger head is tight, off-white and embedded with pinpricks and craters. Nose expresses roasted malts with a hint of artificial caramel sweetness at the back; however, it seems a little off. Taste follows nose. Mouthfeel is light on body with a pleasant, even carbonation. Overall, not a huge fan of this one. Somewhat reminiscent of an extract kit home brew.
