Alluring darker brown body with some transparency, beige collar. Smells of dark fruits with woody and barley accents. Taste is pretty boozy, earthy, and grainy with even a distracting little roast before you get into the dark fruits and heavily toasted caramel. Feel is warm and grainy, but surprisingly thin and bittering but in a roasty way. The Scythians deserved better

Pours a deep, dull mahogany hue with no head, just a tight band around the shoulders. Clarity is a bit on the murky side, although not turbid. Nose expresses notes of malty, medicinal cherries and figs. Taste follows nose; however, cherry character is more prominent (think cherry Sucrets, but less medicinal). Mouthfeel is light-medium (closer to medium) with a slightly assertive carboantion for the style, but not off-putting. Overall, a solid American Barleywine - less hoppy than I’m used to for the style, but not at all unwelcome.
