DATE: November 18, 2022... OCCASION: high off Lenape Valley's performance of Huffs, I crack open this local heavy to warm the evening... GLASSWARE: Citrabellum tulip pokal... pours a sizzling, roiling, mahogany brown body rife with effervescence, its ring of off-white head banking up the glass with creamy consistency... rye, grape, raisin, pumpernickel bread, butterscotch, toffee, peat and dank earth--a lot to like here... weighty, soft, malt-forward in its presence, it pauses at the teeth with its medium-bodied expression before masking its heft in a subtle warmth before leaving a lengthy drag at the throat... a dry, agreeable finish that welcomes the next sip... chewy as well, this is definitely a beer worth pondering over... sweet with fruitiness--plum, apple, red grape--and fully developed with pumpernickel bread, rye, butterscotch, and raw dough... a big beer that satisfies, sweet and simmering, not as effervescent as it appears--but not a knock... this makes me want to check out more of Czig Meister's bigger beers...

Poured from pint bottle into Czig Meister pint glass. It pours a hazy ruby color with orange hues, and a thin, khaki-colored head that dissipated quickly leaving a thin sheen of of like colored lacing. The nose features roasted malt, caramel, and earthy peat. It opens with the expected sweet caramel and dark fruit but quickly becomes smoky and bitter with notes of peat and tobacco smoke. It has all the classic elements of a Wee Heavy. It finishes with more bitterness than I expected, which is a positive. The mouth feel is a little thin; I wish it were more creamy and viscous. The carbonation is mild and the 9.9% ABV is barely noticeable. Overall, it's tasty but the flavors and feel are not at the level of Dirty Bastard, Scotty Karate, Claymore or Traquair.
