this is a really great beer, and from a technical standpoint, probably the best beer i had in here, although most of what these guys are making right now is pretty good. this is loaded with oats, likely some wheat too, there is a ton of silky smooth body, it is sturdy as can be, but still very drinkable at the same time. people sometimes ask what oats can do for the texture of a beer, and i think this is a perfect example of it. its dense but not filling or anything, huge but easy down, and really round and soft on the palate, pretty awesome. thats my favorite part of this one, but the taste is great too. deep earthy roast to this, almost charred barley, fresh brewed coffee, minor hint of black pepper and tobacco, some nuance down in here. good bitterness on the back end, and somewhat drier. i think this is a textbook oatmeal stout, and i would have had pints all night but the rest of the beer list in here was so interesting i felt compelled to tour around it a little bit. really excellent example of the style here!
