473 mL can from the LCBO; I can't find a packaging date. Listed at 5.2% and served barely chilled.

Pours a hazy golden-yellow colour, supporting an inch of soapy, foamy white head that dissipates within three minutes or so. Afterwards, a frothy collar of suds rings the perimeter, with a narrow band of wavering lace clinging to the glass above; looks fine to me. Orange and lemon peel on the nose, with notes of wheat, orchard fruits, peppery spice and bready, grainy malts.

Not bad; the malt profile is a little more robust than average for this style. I'm tasting wheat, cereal grains, bready malts and steel cut oats, with orange peel and lemon zest adding citrusy notes to the profile. Hints of earthy, weedy hops crop up near the finish, concluding with herbal bitterness & citrus peel fading into a wheaty aftertaste. Medium-full in body, with low carbonation that rolls limply along the tongue; the mouthfeel is smooth and somewhat fulfilling, but a little more spritz would make for a more refreshing wheat ale.

Final Grade: 3.59, a B grade. Calabogie's Cottage Country is an adequate wheat ale that accomplishes what I'd expect from this style, more or less. The sturdy malt bill does most of the heavy lifting, while the inclusion of oats adds some helpful heft to its body. The low carbonation isn't ideal, and the flavour profile is also somewhat lacking in variety - the latter being a fairly common gripe I have with American wheats. I could drink this again, but there are many other wheat ales, witbiers and hefeweizens I'd prefer over this one.

On-tap: Poured a light yellow color lager with a large white foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet malt notes with some light corn notes. Taste is also a mix of sweet malt notes with some corn notes. Body is light with good carbonation. Easy drinking Mexican lager with limited level of flavors.
