This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a hazy bronzed to heavy burnt orange color with a large rocky foamy white head that dissipated within less than about two minutes. The smell had some Belgian spices, slight yeastiness, some lemon/citrusy notes, slight dry savory grassiness, all combining really nice. The taste took all of those flavors and combined in a sticky sweet fashion. The aftertaste was semi-sweet through slight grassy and citrusy goodness. It’s got a dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light, feels good, slightly sticky. Overall, as a Belgian Pale ale, it works, I’d have again.

From a 12 oz bottle in a snifter via a friend from work---Thanks Randy!
This rather nice Biere De Garde pours a hazy amber with a nice head of
off white foam that settles to a thick ring and rocky pooling layer with
very nice lacing. Nose of strong grain bill with spicy rye and definite strong
barley notes mingling with earthy yeast and Belgian candy sugars. Flavors
surpass the nose with strong rye and barley that is mellowed out by wheat and
oat notes that are awash in earthy yeasty goodness as well as candy sugars with
a touch of apricot and light herbal hops. Nice mouth feel; medium high carbonation,
medium body, and a sweet herbal finish laced with grain and yeast notes that finishes
lightly dry.

Overall an excellent ale.

12 oz. bottle

Pours hazy amber-bronze with a large dense creamy off-white foam head. Smells like toasted bready malts, wheat, caramel, rye, oats, banana, clove spice, some funky hay, apricots, plum, orange, grape, pear, apple, with minty floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like toasted bready malts, caramel, wheat, spicy rye, oats, mild funky hay, some banana, clove, apricot, plum, orange, grape, pear, apple, with minty floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium bodied, creamy and smooth with moderate low carbonation. Overall a real nice Bière de Garde harvest ale.

I picked up a bottle of Brewery Ommegang's Grains Of Truth Harvest Ale for $2.69 at The Lager Mill. It's been a little while since I've tried a new beer from Ommegang and I'm interested to see how this one will turn out, so lets see how it goes. 2016 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into wheat beer glass.

A_ The label looks nice, it's got a nice and simple design to it, but it isn't that eye catching. It poured a golden orange color that took on more of a orange color when held to the light with four fingers worth of fluffy off white head that died down to a thick layer that stayed till the end and it left some nice rings of patchy lacing behind. This is a good looking beer, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a lower amount of high sweetness with the belgian yeast being the first to show up and it imparts that estery Belgian yeast aroma with some spices, bubblegum and light banana aromas. Up next comes the malts which impart some sweet malts, pale malts, grainy and light bread aromas. Towards the end comes more of those spices and there's a citrus rind and orange aroma coming through. This beer has a pretty nice aroma, it's pretty inline with the style, but not much sticks out about it.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma, but it's a little lighter and slightly watery and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the belgian yeast, it imparts the same aspects, but it;s not as strong as it was in the aroma and it's followed by some stonefruit and it goes into the spices which are a little lighter than they were in the aroma with coriander seeming to show up the most with no much of those banana and bubblegum aspects carrying through from the aroma. Up next comes the malts which shows up a little more than they did in the aroma, but they impart all the same aspects and there's a watery and grainy flavor towards the end. On the finish there's a slightly lighter amount of medium bitterness with a Belgian yeast, slightly watery, light spices and grainy aftertaste. This is a nice tasting beer, but not much sticks out about it for the style.

M- Fairly smooth, very crisp, a little prickly, medium bodied with a high amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is nice, but I wish it was a little less carbonated.

Overall I thought this was nice beer and a decent example of the style, it's not bad at all, but it's very standard for the style with not much sticking out about to set it apart from all the other beers in the style and make it memorable. This beer has ok drinkability, one is enough for me, I don't have the urge to have anymore than that. What I like the most about this beer is the appearance and aroma, those are the highlights of this beer to me. What I like the least about this beer is the plain and bland the taste was, it didn't help that it was a little watery and grainy. I don't think I would buy this beer again, but I wouldn't turn one down and I can't say I would recommend it. All in all I wasn't really impressed with this beer, it didn't really have any off flavors or anything, but it also didn't have anything to make it memorable. It's not a favorite Ommegang beer and it's average for the style. Better luck next time guys, this one could use some work.

On tap at Barrow Street Ale House.

Beautiful long lived head tops a hazy light amber beer.
It smells of rye and sweet malt and Belgian spice.
It tastes mild and beery, with a sophisticated tang. Sweet, floral, with a pleasantly white pepper / earthy bite.
A bit watery, but very drinkable.
A nice BPA. Would have again.
