375 mL bottle. Pours inky black with no head. Slick oily surface. Smells of vanilla, chocolate, and alcohol. Tastes of vanilla and dark chocolate. Sweet fudge. Some woody bitterness in the finish. Heavy and a little alcoholic. Low carbonation. It's a big beer, but I split the bottle and had no problem finishing it.

vintage 2017
So much vanilla in the nose and flavor. Havent smelled on tasted such a complex vanilla flavor and aroma in a stout before. Light roast to compliment the sweetness. Medium bodied stout. Low carbonation. Not a hint of booze. Fantastic vanilla stout by pulpit rock!

375ml bottle of the first bottle release. Served in a snifter glass.
Pours a dark cola brown body, nearly black, fairly opaque with a one finger thick offwhite head, fair retention, no lacing. Smell is heavy roast, a little milk chocolate, a fair bit of vanilla ice cream. Flavour is fairly simple, heavy roast with a fair bit of vanilla marshmallow and seediness, more roast and not that much complexity. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with the vanilla oils giving out a nice boost to the slickness of the mouthfeel. As a whole, this was a fairly unimpressive stout as far as the interest quotient of the flavours go; it's essentially heavy roast with a lot of vanilla. If that relatively simple flavour profile fits what you're looking for, then it's worth the price given that there aren't a lot of non-BA vanilla stouts out there.

August 20, 2016 on tap at Pulpit Rock 1 year Anniversary
Look: Opaque black body with a creamy, thick, and fluffy light brown nitro head
Smell: Sweet milk chocolate and strong vanilla
Taste: Rich chocolate milk, alcohol hardly noticeable
Feel: Velvety, soft, and creamy texture. Thick but with a lightness - not "chewy"
Overall: my 1st beer review for my personal favorite Decorah, IA stout.
