Pours black with two fingers of mocha head that hung around for a bit before settling into a thin ring.
Smells of roasty coffee, some chocolate, overall nice roasty aromas.
Taste follows, lots of coffee, some chocolate, a bit of bitter roastiness on the end.
Full bodied, decent carb level.
Overall a pretty tasty coffee porter, would love to try several of the different coffees side by side.

Poured into a pint glass from a 16 oz can. I could not find a date on the can.
Look: this beer was striking. Almost jet black and viscous on the pour. A medium-sized dark tan head formed that very slowly settled.
Aroma: roasted coffee with an earthy presence. Some chocolate notes, but overall a bit muted.
Taste: a very nice coffee flavor throughout, again with earthy notes. Faint chocolate and a slight acidic tang on the finish. A bit sticky-sweet on the finish.
Feel: full-bodied and viscous. Carbonation slightly below medium.
Overall: I liked this one but found the aroma and taste to be a bit lacking. It also was a bit too sweet for a Robust Porter for my liking.

my first beer from these guys, they seem to have a loyal fan base in the iowa beer scene, i was very excited to try this one on tap. it looks like they do a whole series of these with different coffees, which i would have loved to try all together, i have had awesome experiences doing that with the terrapin single origin coffee beers. this is a good porter as a base without the coffee, sturdy and roasty but neither too bitter nor heavy, its mellow in feel and smooth going down, with subtle chocolate and coffee notes already from the malt. the coffee is pretty robust here though and it does add a lot, some cocoa notes of its own in this case, and some neat hazelnut element, as well as some of that gritty earthiness i often find in costa rican coffees. it doesnt taste to me as fresh as it could, not yet green pepper or stale, but there is a not quite fresh brewed aspect to this thats a bit of a bummer, more an issue with the establishment than the beer i suspect, but not enough to put me off of this. there is a nice richness to the coffee, not the heaviest roast in the world, and beautiful integration into the base beer. i liked this a lot and hope to get to try some other coffee variants next time i am in the area!

On tap. Tan head. Dark brown/black color.
Roasted coffee. A bit too much roast. A lot of coffee. Chocolate. Caramel. Dry and a bit of bitterness.
Medium bodied. I don’t like this variant as much as others I’ve had.
