this is definitely the best beer i had here. finally made it in, and the beers are good, but i must admit that the beers they make on their own are better than the ones they collaborate on. seems like they have this one all the time, and it was a league above most of the rest i had. its super dark, black and clean looking with a nice tall head on it, milkshake thick and deep tan in color. it smells less hoppy than expected, more like a porter with some pine notes on the back end. very big, very wintery. it might have some oats here, tons of silky smooth body and a little residual sugar to balance the intensity of the dark malt, black and burnt, almost chalky at times in texture. it moves into a more hoppy finish than it smells like it should have, with pine sap and chirstmas sort of coming out. really interesting evolution, and i love how the dark barley is there all the way through. i might detect a hint of rye spice, but it could be the earthy spice of the hops. well timed and well dosed there. big mouthfeel with no alcohol at all, frothy and lasting, really satisfying and cool and dry at the end. unique and tasty beer. definitely the one to try up there right now.
