El Lobo RojoEl Lobo Rojo
Notes: A classic wheat beer brewed with fresh cherry juice for the University of New Mexico. Delicately hopped with a blend of Columbus and Crystal hops producing a subtle, but distinct hop character which compliments the light refreshing cherry taste.

12oz can poured into Duvel tulip. Born on 11/09/18 printed on bottom of can. So this one is only 13 days old. Got it from the grocery store as part of a $10 sixer mixer. The can itself is strange and unique in that it appears to be a plain silver can with a thin plastic sticker that wraps around 90% of the can. So if you pop this in the fridge or freezer for a quick temp drop, keep that in mind, because the fact that your hand isn't contacting aluminum when you hold it makes it feel less cold than it actually is.

Appearance - Clear, or slightly hazy beautiful deep red body. Pours a thin white head with great lacing and decent to slight retention. Virtually indistinguishable from Juicy Juice cherry juice if not for the thin head. 4

Smell - Also very similar to cherry juice. However, it's a bit more tart smelling than straight juice. You can smell this one from a distance. A swirl will regenerate the head and give you a strong waft of hop bitterness and slight alcohol. 4

Taste - Surprisingly dry. And mild. Like cherry without the sweetness. I suppose the cherry juice is added prior to fermentation then. Actually quite similar to a cherry wine. You might even find it indistinguishable. But no off characters at least. 3

Mouthfeel - Very thin and water. Unimpressive. 2

Overall - Quite unique. If you love the flavor and mouthfeel of wine, but get those red wine hangovers real bad because of the Acetaldehyde ... this is the perfect wine substitute for you. It's basically indistinguishable from a cherry wine. A little unchallenging, but no off characters. 3.75
