473 mL can from the LCBO, included in the winter edition of London's Organic Mix Pack. Dated Sep 18 2023 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear medium gold colour, producing a little over an inch of smooth, foamy white head. It sizzles off within two or three minutes, worn down to a generous collar of froth surrounding a thin, patchy cap. The aroma is muted and mildly fruity - I'm getting whiffs of orange, peach and melon, with hints of graininess and grassiness.
Crisp and clean flavour profile, which I suppose is on point for a cold IPA - orange peel, light stone fruit and grainy pale malts, with a slight hint of caramel sweetness. Piney on the back end, with hints of citrus and bubblegum preceding a resiny, persistent aftertaste. Medium in body, with lively carbonation that prickles the palate continuously throughout each sip; feels smooth and a little frothy, but also crisp and refreshing - at least, for an IPA.
Final Grade: 3.74, a B grade. London's Organic Cold IPA probably won't blow your mind, but at 7.1% it really is ridiculously crushable. Like most of the other cold IPAs I've reviewed, the aromas and flavours are subdued for the style - imagine the bare essence of an IPA, then fill the rest out with a strong lager. I can appreciate this beer for what it is, and as a cold IPA I think it's fairly well-executed... on a grander scale, including all IPAs everywhere, it comes off as plain and inoffensive. I liked it enough to consider revisiting at some point.
