473 mL can from the brewery; dated Nov 3 2025 and served barely chilled. If you're at all curious, J & Rubino are the hosts of a morning radio show in London.
Pours a relatively clear orange-amber colour, generating an inch of foamy, cream-coloured head that wears away over the next five-plus minutes. A frothy collar and a few wisps on the surface are its eventual remnants, with plenty of lace production as the level drops; looks good so far. Malt-forward aroma of bready malts, caramel, biscuit, toasted grains and candy apple, with suggestions of earthy, woodsy hops.
A nice amber ale with robust malt flavours: I'm getting toasted bread, biscuits and toffee, as well as hints of baked apples. Roasted grains and biscuits on the back end, with hints of earthy, piney, woodsy hops culminating in a malty, slightly roasty aftertaste that lingers momentarily on the taste buds. Light-medium in body, with restrained carbonation that meekly agitates the surface of the palate. Smooth mouthfeel, with solid drinkability.
Final Grade: 3.86, a B+. Ale I Want For Christmas is an above average amber ale that I thoroughly enjoyed. Its malt flavours have both depth and potency, and the 'Norfolk county hops' add a proper counterpoint of bitterness - it's balanced, flavourful and approachable. I'd buy this again next Christmas - ambers are not a style I tend to gravitate towards, but London Brewing has cooked up a damn fine one.
